Job Summary

The Health Promotion Coordinator is a professional employed by the Kanabec County Community Health. The position will work throughout Pine, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec and Mille Lacs counties to increase awareness of suicide prevention by delivering, promoting, and coordinating evidence-based mental health and suicide prevention trainings. The Regional Coordinator will help raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, statewide mobile crisis services and other regional resources. Other duties include building the capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities to implement effective suicide prevention strategies through the provision of technical assistance and training.

Some Examples of Essential Duties

  1. Coordinates and administers assigned County health promotion programs and participates in the assessment, planning, administration and evaluation of various public health programs.
  2. Manages the budget for assigned health promotion grants.
  3. Assists in conducting needs assessments of health promotion programs.
  4. May recruit and supervise program volunteers and interns.
  5. Engages community leaders to foster participation and ownership to achieve prevention goals.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to convene and lead community meetings.
  7. Plans policy initiatives in collaboration with others in order to implement policy change.
  8. Works with community partners to develop system and policy changes that favorably influence the health of Kanabec County residents.
  9. Serves as liaison to community organizations. Educates and advocates for health promotion and public health activities.
  10. Serves as resource person to the general community and agency staff in the promotion of health.
  11. Conducts public relations programs to create awareness of existing health concerns and preventive issues.
  12. Attends workshops, meetings and training to be knowledgeable about health promotion and preventive issues. 
  13. Provides leadership to task forces, coalitions, and groups in the local area who are addressing preventive health issues.
  14. Provides consultation to schools, worksites or groups to develop health promotion activities and wellness programs and policies.
  15. Serves as a consultant to the general community in locating appropriate resources that address local health problems.
  16. Works according to good safety practices as posted, instructed, discussed, and written in policy.
  17. Collaborates with administrator in identifying health issues, as well as inventory of community resources.
  18. Develops and provides presentations as requested.
  19. Coordinates and participates in community events as assigned.
  20. Responsible for writing grant applications for health promotion activities with consultation from supervisor.
  21. Documents and completes various reports related to grant programs.
  22. Develops expected outcomes related to program areas.
  23. Evaluates effectiveness of programs and implements changes as indicated.
  24. Manages grant budgets with assistance of supervisor.
  25. Develops community interest involvement in health promotion activities.
  26. Performs other work as required by the Kanabec County Public Health Director.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Health Education, or Community Health

OR

  • Graduate from Baccalaureate program for nursing
  • Must be currently licensed to practice their profession, where applicable
  • Two years preferred in professional field.
  • Experiences in policy, systems and environmental change approaches to better health preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License
