Job Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Bus Driver position at are to provide safe, customer service-oriented transportation to all passengers of the Transit service. Drivers are responsible to provide all transportation assignments from the Dispatch office; to provide on-time, reliable service in the safest, most efficient manner possible and in accordance with FTA guidelines including ADA, Title VI. Drivers are responsible for daily vehicle and lift inspections; and for reporting any issues/safety concerns to the Operations Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Class C Driver's license with passenger endorsement
  • 2 years experience driving
  • Clean driving record
  • Provide a current DOT Health Certificate
  • Pass background investigation

This is a Safety Sensitive Position.  A NetStudy2 background check and a pre-employment drug screening are required prior to performing duties.  As a condition of continuing employment the Transit Driver is subject to random selections for drug and alcohol testing; annual review of driving record.

Examples of Essential Duties

92% Driving Duties

  1. Drives buses over specified route or to specified destination, maintaining a time schedule, to transport passengers.
  2. Drives all size buses operated by Kanabec County.
  3. Operates vehicles in compliance with all state and federal regulations, traffic laws, and policies and procedures. (MN/DOT, FTA, ADA, Title VI, Kanabec County Public Transit System)
  4. Park vehicle and assist where needed in the boarding and departing of passengers. Curb to curb service with additional assistance as prearranged (ie. assisting with loading and carrying packages).
  5. Operate lift both normally and manually.  Securely restrain wheel chairs and other mobility devices.
  6. Regulate heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  7. Proficient with the use of a computer and electronic tablet to record cash fares, ridership statistics, daily manifests, accident/incident reports and pre & post trip inspection reports.
  8. Visually inspect vehicle according to required pre & post trip inspection sheets.
  9. Advise passengers to be seated and to use seat belts while on vehicle.
  10. Assist with customer comments and complaints.
  11. Observes procedures and ensures quality of service.
  12. Read maps and follow directions. Tabulate day’s end statistics
  13. Responsible for fare collection

  1. Responsible for cleanliness of buses and shop area.
  2. May at times need to determine eligibility for some programs
  3. Ensure data privacy practices are followed
  4. Other duties as assigned
